Q: Can acid reflux cause pain in between shoulder blades in the back?
If acid reflux is severe, can it cause pain in the area of the back between the shoulder blades? Pain that radiates to the shoulders, chest and even causes acid to come up in the throat??
A: yes it can most definatly cause these symptoms you need to see a doctor as if it goes untreated it can lead to ulcers in the esphagus there can also be other problems causing the pain so have it checked out
Q: How, exactly, does acid reflux cause difficulty swallowing?
I’ve been having difficulty swallowing and went to see an ENT. Apparently, I have acid reflux. I’m just wondering how, exactly, this causes difficulty swallowing? I should have asked my doctor but I guess I was so preoccupied I forgot to ask.
A: The acid that comes up eats away at the lining in your throat, which makes it sore and therefore making it hard to swallow. Acid reflux causes alot of things. Sore throat, heartburn, upset stomach, etc. Prilosec is really good for treatment. That is what I am on.
Q: Can acid reflux cause dryness of the throat?
I have acid reflux and a few days ago my throat had that burn feel to it. Now my throat and tonsils feel dry, and they’ve felt like that for a couple days now. I’ve already drank plenty of fluids and its still the same, there is no burning, just dry.
Is there anything I can do in the meantime? I don’t have an appointment for another few days
A: Acid reflux causes irritation to your esophagus and it may damages some of the epithelial cells that excrete mucosa to protect it, hence the dryness. There is really nothing you can do other than keep drinking that water. If you still experience that symptoms of acid reflux, then you can always use prilosec OTC 20 mg once daily or you can try Tums. I hope that helps.
Q: Can acid reflux cause weight loss?
I have a diagnosed hiatal hernia and experiance regular acid reflux. I am also having trouble gaining weight. I have been able to get up to around 165lbs as a 6′2″ male but always fall back down to around 150lbs. Could my acid reflux be the culprit and if so, how would this cause weightloss/prevent weight gain?
A: well in theory it could be some small sourc of your weight loss, but I wouldnt consider it the sole reason for it. I myself was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and grad I GERD, so I can relate. Looking at foods especially high in sodium i.e. Chic-fil-a would give me heartburn. Having heartburn bad enough to where it discourages you from eating foods, yeah… I can see it a little bit.
Prevacid is now available over the counter and I highly reccommend it. Prevacid is a Proton Pump Inhibitor and PPI’s are a group of drugs whose main action is a pronounced and long-lasting reduction of gastric acid production.
Q: Can acid reflux cause acid to go into the ear?
I feel acid in my esophagus and in the ear, I think.
I feel burning in my ear, not pain
well, acid traveling through my esophagus into my ear passageways or whatever they’re called
A: Acid cannot reach the ears, they are not linked in a manner that acid could travel. Acid can get in in your synisus but that is the furthest it can go.
I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!
Three part answer: information, what not to do, and what to do!
INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case with hereditary), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, Stress, Anxiety or can be Hereditary
The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.
G.E.R.D. is caused by too much acid being created in your stomach. This can lead to or cause ulcers, esophagus damage, heartburn and/or damage in the mouth. . Other symptoms that can be found in a few cases are dizziness, tingling in limbs, numbness of Limbs, Chest/Back pain focused on the left side (in most cases), and shortness/difficulty breathing.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:
Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Oranges (Juice and fruit)
Lemon (Juice and fruit)
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Potatoes (Starch)
Buffalo wings
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Doughnuts
Brownies
Cake
Tomato Based Products
Lactose
Sour Cream
Cottage Cheese
High amounts of Carbohydrates
Roughage (Berries and Nuts)
Onions
WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.
I would also look to putting Cinnamon and Ginger in you diet, they have been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.
Q: Can coeliacs disease cause acid reflux?
I have had digestive problems after having foods such as bread, biscuits, pasta for about ten years. Sometimes it’s just really bad bloating with a side pain other times I have loose bowel movements feel sick or have palpitations. About two weeks ago I had really severe acid reflux which I’ve never had before which made me think maybe I should get this checked out. Could Coeliacs be the cause of all this?
A: Coeliacs disease and acid reflux are two different problems altogether, I suffer with both.
Coeliacs disease causes severe abdominal pain and bowel problems including diarrhoea and constipation when a person has eaten food containing Gluten (although not all symptoms will be apparent). If you are concerned then go see your GP and ask to be tested for coeliacs disease. They will perform a blood test to see if you have endomysial antibodies. If so, you will then be referred to a specialist for a biopsy. This can be done by a small tube being passed down your throat until it reaches your duodenum (small intestine) where they will remove a small part the check for coeliacs disease. You do have the option of a general anaesthetic or a spray on the back of the throat. I had the spray but afterwards I wish I had had the anaesthetic. They can then confirm whether you have coeliac disease or not. Do not cut out Gluten whilst undergoing tests as this will jeopardise the results. If coeliac disease is diagnosed you will have to follow a strict diet to ensure you do not eat Gluten.
Acid reflux can be caused by the vomiting as mine was caused because I was Bulimic. Again go see your GP you may be prescribed a short dose of anti-acid pills, stronger then the ones over the counter and this should help to clear it up. If it continues persist on going to GP until it is sorted.
I hope this helps
Q: Can panic disorder cause acid reflux?
I have been having bad anxiety/panic attacks and acid reflux at the same time. They seem to have started at approximately the same time as well. Does one cause the other? How can I treat this?
A: One can cause the other. It could go both ways. If you are actually having panic attacks, you need to see a psychologist/therapist. A psychiatrist wouldn’t hurt either. As for the reflux -again, assuming that your diagnosis is correct, treatment depends partially on the cause so you need to see your physician.
Q: Can acid reflux cause a heart attack?
I currently have some acid reflux but woke up out of my sleep last night not being able to breathe and my girlfriend said that my heart looked like it was about to jump out of chest. after i was able to finally calm down, i my mouth was filled with some blood. I really felt like that final moments. i am only 28 years old and this is the second time this has happened. can anyone help?
A: Why in the world are you asking about this on Y!A??!!!!
Go to a walk-in clinic or hospital emergency room, today!
Q: Can acid reflux cause a anxiety attack or a panic attack?
Please tell me the quickest way to get over a anxiety attack.
A: Hey, How are you?
I’m almost a doctor…
Acid reflux (GERD) cannot cause an anxiety or panic attack. Some people genetically are more prone to get these attacks. Two ways to reduce them are to:
– Avoid the triggers that cause the panic attacks (irritating people) or to have calming people support you when ya have to face certain triggers (i.e. tests).
– If it goes on for months, and praying, avoiding triggers, and family/friends’ support doesn’t work, go to a psychiatrist, explain what happens, and they have EXCELLENT medications that will help.
Q: Can acid reflux cause cavities?
Is this possible, if you’ve been suffering form it for a prolonged period of time for acid reflux to cause tooth decay?
A: Yes, it can cause massive dental problems !
Biggest prob is erosion .This means the enamel can be thinned causing difficulties that are very difficult (and expensive) 2 correct. Also the teeth ARE more prone 2 cavities. But the major problem is erosion.
If the medical people can not correct the reflux its a difficult scenario.Rinsing with plain water after reflux will help but solving reflux is obviously the best solution Bulimics will often present with massive erosion due 2 constant vomiting,as will alcoholics or people who drink a lot of minerals.
Q: Can extreme stress cause acid reflux?
Like can stressing over something alot worsen my acid reflux? Now when I swallow something it feels like theres a lump and it takes a while for the food to go down. I have been extremely stressed for a month now about my acid reflux and my oesophogus cause I am terrified that I have cancer or something.
A: yes i have heard of it before. Stress is crazy. it can cause many things. i have almost passed out before because of stress. you would have to learn how to relax…but you should be fine.
Q: Could acid reflux cause this singing trouble?
I feel like I have to force myself to sing lately.
Like sing really hard so that a substantial voice with come out, because if I just sing, its a soft whisper noise.
I haven’t been on my medicine and I was wondering if it could this.
Oh, and I would like to add this because the last person said take a break.
I have.
It had been like a month and a half.
That is why I am curious.
A: I actually was just lookin up some shit on this subject earlier today. acid reflux does cause the glands in your throat to swell. if its hard to sing then give yourself a break from it. you dont want to hurt your voice and you will if you push too hard. you might want to try to inhale some steam to help loosen up your throat.
Q: how can acid reflux cause inflamation of the trachea?
my trachea is very inflamed and has alot of puss, (it was looked at through a bronchoscopy) it has been suggested that this may be caused by acid reflux. but how does the acid find its way to the airways??????? 10 points best answer
A: During your sleep acid must be coming up your oesophagus and taking a turn into your trachea.
It is very important to sleep sitting upright, with 3 pillows when one has gastric reflux to prevent acid getting into the lungs and causing one to choke, among other problems.
Q: Can poor oral hygiene or Acid reflux cause a weird metallic Taste in the back of the mouth?
A: are u on any medications??? there are some antidepressants that give that metallic taste in the mouth, but i cant think of the name.
Q: Does the drug Aciphex for acid reflux cause fast heart rate?
So i’m 16 and i have had 24/7 palpitations for 1 month straight from anxiety. I went to a cardiologist and she said i was normal and healthy. I started to think that my heart was beating faster than normal yesterday, and i kinda am concentrating on it more…so i can’t tell if it’s anxiety or the medicine. Because the only other medicine i used that cause palpitations was Sudafed.
So if Aciphex is causing palpitations will it be permanent?
A: im 15 and take 20 mg of aciphex and it has no negative effect on me
