Q: When acid reflux causes shortness of breath?
does that mean the lungs are getting or are already scarred?
If I were having a heart attack, I would have been dead by now. It’s not the first time.
A: No. Acid reflux sometimes causes acid to be regurgitated into the esophagus and possibly into the lungs. When that happens, your muscles contract which causes a constriction of the airway. This leads to the shortness of breath feeling. So basically if you fix the underlying cause of your acid reflux, then the shortness of breath should go away.
This is not to say that acid reflux does not cause any damage to the esophagus though. Over many years acid reflux can lead to changes in esophageal cells that may lead to cancer if not treated. If your acid reflux is bad enough and has been going on for a long time I would ask your doctor about getting an endoscopy (where they use a scope to look down into your esophagus) done just to make sure everything is okay.
Q: How can you stop the lump in the throat feeling that acid reflux causes?
A: The only thing that worked for me was going on an acid reducing medication prescribed by my doctor. It took almost a month before I noticed significant improvement in the “lump”. Now it’s been 4 months and it is about 90% gone. I had a lot of damage by the time I went to the doctor to find out what it was. I did not ever have any heartburn, so I didn’t know I was having reflux until there was already damage. Talk to your doctor. Good luck.
Q: Acid reflux, what causes it and how do I fix it?
I have like a heart burn type deal like everyday, and my stomach is always a little unsettled. I assume that it’s acid reflux, since I have been diagnosed with it before. However, I don’t have insurance right now and won’t for a little while. So, any home remedies besides taking tums?
A: i have acid reflux. . . and restrictin food’s doesn’t really help
i have had it my whole life
eat regularly. . . going a long tym without eating causes a build up of acid in the stomach
when you feel it coming on eat food that are plain e.g. bread, rice in otherwords high in carbs
greasy food’s wont help it
use rennie tablets when you feel it comng on
there is no cure for it. . .sorry
EDIT- milk, any milky substances help because they are basic i.e. not acidic they reduce the acid
Q: is acid Reflux in children causes nausia early in the morning on a daily basis?
my 4 years daughter has been throwing up only when she wakes up in the morning before even having her breakfast for two months now . Doctors reccomend that she has acid reflux for which she is taking medication now ….but still no result so far ..i wonder if the acid reflux in children or the constipation can cause this nausia early in the morning for that long period ?
medicine are taken now are pepcid for acid reflux and miralax for constipation .
A: That can definitely be the result of acid reflux and it can persist especially if she is not on the correct medication specifically for her. I would recommend taking her to a pediatric gastro specialist significant reflux can cause serious issues later on if left untreated. Hope this helps I have alot of experience with patients with acid reflux not as much in pediatrics but we have referred children to specialists for similar cases. Good Luck.
Q: What causes acid reflux? Why was my chest burning all night last night? Does drinking ice cold water help?
I tried to drink lots of iced water to get rid of it, & it still burned. I was barely able to sleep.
A: Acid reflux can happen also to healthy people once in a while.. it all depends what you ate.. if you ate hot spicy food…that can do it.. if you get it frequently.. you might have a defective valve.. that is the valve which separates the chest from the stomach.. if that valve doesn’t close as it should.. then acid can come back up into your chest anytime.. and it is a buring boring feeling behind the lower end of the sternum.. like fire…Cold water won’t do any harm… I wouldn’t drink Ice cold water.. you may feel you need it.. better is to get some over the counter prescription… against stomach acid…or tumms… may do the trick.. they have different flavours… also several medications can cause heartburn.. if you have it only on occasion.. too much stress, too much coffeeine.. too much chocolate.. all that.. too spicy.. that causes stomach acid to flow back up into the esphagus.. your food pipe and that’s why it burns in your chest…talk to your doctor if it is a severe problem.. prilosec… I believe is the name helps for stubborn cases of acid reflux.. spicy meals, a defective valve at the end of the esophagus which won’t stay closed, or a hiatus hernia.. where the chest cavity and the diaphragm meet.. there is your diaphragm and in hiatus hernia.. part of the stomach.. moves up through the valve into the chest cavity.. most of the time.. it goes back right away.. then the acid feelingt disappears.. and a sliding hernia normally needs nothing doing to it.. only if you have a different more complicated kind of hiatus hernia.. they would close the valve by laser surgery.. not a big deal…it needs over the counter anti acid medication if you get it badly.. or tums can get rid of it…if you had it one time.. then i recommend.. put an extra pillow under your head and upper body.. to not allow the acid to flow up when you are in bed and don’t have a late snack… eat no later than 7 pm.. and then no more.. that way you prevent stomach acid to cause the burning feeling.. we all have stomach acid.. that is good because it kills the bacteria.. when our stomach absorbs food.. Eat several smaller meals throughout the day instead of 2 big meals.. that also helps… not to have a very full stomach.. rather drink some relaxing tea.. the burning is not really caused by a fire and water will not get rid of it.. but you can drink cool water but not icy cold water.. that won’t help….I suffer from acid reflux .. so I know I have a defective valve which causes mine…don’t worry about it if it is a once in a blue moon occasion .. if it happens a lot.. mention it to your doctor…
Q: How, exactly, does acid reflux cause difficulty swallowing?
I’ve been having difficulty swallowing and went to see an ENT. Apparently, I have acid reflux. I’m just wondering how, exactly, this causes difficulty swallowing? I should have asked my doctor but I guess I was so preoccupied I forgot to ask.
A: The acid that comes up eats away at the lining in your throat, which makes it sore and therefore making it hard to swallow. Acid reflux causes alot of things. Sore throat, heartburn, upset stomach, etc. Prilosec is really good for treatment. That is what I am on.
Q: Can acid reflux cause pain in between shoulder blades in the back?
If acid reflux is severe, can it cause pain in the area of the back between the shoulder blades? Pain that radiates to the shoulders, chest and even causes acid to come up in the throat??
A: yes it can most definatly cause these symptoms you need to see a doctor as if it goes untreated it can lead to ulcers in the esphagus there can also be other problems causing the pain so have it checked out
Q: I have acid reflux which causes bad breath! how could the bad breath be stopped?
is it true if a body cleanse is done, the odor will go away?
A: horrible breath can be caused by a various factors. bad breath can be caused by gum disease, dirty mouth, dry mouth, eating a garlicky meal, sinusitis and stomach related problems and anaerobic bacteria in the mouth. whatever your bad breath issue is, it is best to seek the help of a dentist to be able to determine your bad breath cause. after you and your dental expert have found out the cause of your smelly breath, he can now give you the right treatment for it. but try to really make it a habit to brush and floss teeth properly and carefully for this can be a great help in battling bacteria in the mouth that cause bad breath. keeping the mouth hydrated and salivated will be really helpful, the thing is to keep drinking adequate amount of water. for more tips about bad breath cure visit http://www.oramd.com
Q: Do any one knows if acid reflux causes your heart to hurt?
I have chest pain also. Did any one heard of such thing. Please let me know or if u ever read or come across such.
THANKS~
A: Yes, acid reflux can cause substernal pain which may cause you to believe you are having a heart attack. Just make sure that you have a physical exam to rule out any heart problems.
Q: How to prevent the bad breath from acid reflux and keep breath fresh all day and night?
There is no medicine can keep breath fresh. I was trying to find the solution how to keep breath fresh all day and night. I notice the acid reflux causes bad breath. How to prevent this and keep breath fresh all day and night?
Coolguy
A: I am not sure that there is necessarily any “cure” for this. I would say however that drinking a lot of water would at least greatly diminish it.
Q: Hi I was wondering if acid reflux causes nausea for some people?
Hi. I have had a very bad year..to say the least . First, I caught a staph infection. Then, all of sudden again, after a month later, I caught a stomach infection, h.pylori. I was treated for this and the doctor said the h.pylori was gone. But even after the h.pylori was gone I still had symptoms, just not as bad. I still have the gastritis that it caused and now recently the burning pain from the stomach has moved up through my throat and its making me sick. I went back to the doctor and he told me the nausea is from acid reflux. It seems if my stomach is not burning then its in my esphugs burning and making me nauseas. I cant win. I rather have the burning in my stomach then the nausea. All I know after i got out of that hospital my stomach hasnt been right. Can anyone help? I was wondering if anyone knew of a good probiotic i can use. I heard they r good for all different digestive disorders. I also heard aloe cures acid reflux and gastratis. Is this true? Please help. thanks .
A: had similar problems and fixed it with diet. Yes a good pro-biotic will help and also try eating an ALL natural yogurt
and I mean just plain yogurt not added fruit or nothing. That will add a GOOD bacteria for your stomach. Also, I have allergies and many times all that crap will run down my throat and cause a slight nausea. Also, If your taking some vitamins without eating first that will also make you feel a bit sick to your stomach. Sounds like your doc either didn’t answer your questions or you need to ask him MORE questions since your asking them on YA
Q: what causes acid reflux & are there and good otc medicines for it?
A: There are many acid reflux medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that are used to treat gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). Acid reflux medication is used in the treatment of GERD to alleviate symptoms of heartburn or bitter taste. They are also used to allow the esophagus to heal and prevent any further complications.
Antacids – There are many antacids (such as Chooz, Tums, Gaviscon, Di-gel, Mylanta, Rolaids) available over-the-counter. These antacids work by neutralizing acid in the stomach. Antacids neutralize stomach acid on contact and relieve heartburn. This acid reflux medication is usually tried first when symptoms are infrequent and mild.
Acid reducers / H2 blockers – This type of acid reflux medication works by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces. Acid reducers also called H2 blockers (such as Axid, Pepcid, Tagamet and Zantac) are generally used to treat conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid and conditions in which acid comes up into the esophagus and causes heartburn.

Q: what causes acid reflux?
the pain caused by acid reflux, the dizziness, the vomiting.
A: Dizziness and vomiting are not usually caused by acid reflux. Are you experiencing all of those? What other health problems do you have? Acid reflux is actually commonly caused by food allergies and intolerances like celiac disease (gluten intolerance) or milk allergy/intolerance (that you may not have other symptoms of). I had acid reflux and it turned out to be a reaction to gluten and somewhat to dairy. It can also be caused by structural problems. I know someone who had a hernia and reflux was their only symptom.
Q: What to do if you experience acid reflux?
I woke up one day and my throat burned like crazy and i learned that it was acid reflux caused from eating too late and acid from your stomach seeping into your throat. I wanted to know what to do to help this because naturally ive just been drinking juice or water and eating lots of fruits to soothe it. Also, ive been experiencing a lot of coughing and wanted to know is this normal and what to do to prevent and help acid reflux.
A: 1. Fruits and juice will make it worse because they have acid in them.
2. To help acid reflux don’t eat before bed and sleep with your head slightly propped.
3. Antacids should help, I find mylanta is very helpful.
Q: acid reflux…..?
can drinking too many energy drinks cause acid reflux disease?
A: Three part answer information, what not to do, and what to do!
INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, or can be Heritatary
The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:
Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Chocolate
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Tomato Based Products
WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.
I would also look to putting Cinnamon in you diet, it has been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.
