Q: What foods are okay to eat if you have acid reflux?
I think i have acid reflux bc after i eat greasy and fatty foods it feels like my throat is burning and i always wake up inthe middle of the night with a burning chest and stomach. is this really acid reflux? what food is okay to eat?
A: If you think you have Acid Reflux please see DR . as this is a danger’s situation ,
Under normal conditions, when you eat and drink, the muscle at the bottom of your esophagus closes off so food and liquids will remain in your stomach. This muscle is the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).
However, GERD occurs chiefly because of the following three reasons: The esophagus’s normal defenses are overwhelmed by the acid content of the stomach, the contents of the stomach are too acidic, or the food is not cleared from the esophagus fast enough.
When “refluxed” stomach acid touches the lining of the esophagus, it causes a burning sensation in the chest or throat called heartburn. The fluid may even reach the back of the mouth, and this is called acid indigestion. Occasional heartburn is common but does not necessarily mean one has GERD. Heartburn that occurs more than twice a week may be considered GERD, and it can eventually lead to more serious health problems.
Other symptoms can include:
Pain in the chest
Hoarseness in the morning
Trouble swallowing
May feel like food is stuck in the throat
Choking sensation
Persistent dry cough
Bad breath
If you have been diagnosed with acid reflux disease (GERD), you’ll want to learn how to control the symptoms. The acid reflux disease will still be there, but you can alleviate and in many cases, prevent the symptoms.
The following tips can help you live with your acid reflux disease.
Eat 6 small meals instead of 3 big meals.
This keeps your stomach from getting too full. This will also reduce gastric pressure. Another tip is to eat slowly.
Don’t eat or drink anything for at least 2 hours before going to bed.
If you take naps, try sleeping in a chair. Lying down with a full stomach can cause stomach contents to press harder against the lower sphincter muscle, increasing the chances of refluxed food.
Avoid foods that are known to trigger your heartburn.
There are several foods and beverages that can trigger your heartburn, either by increasing acid production and gastric pressure or by loosening the lower sphincter muscle.
Q: My girlfriend thinks she has acid reflux what foods should she avoid?
My girlfriend thinks she has acid reflux. She went on vacation last week and she said her symptoms were better. But yesterday she had Chinese food for lunch (which she has probably 3 out of the 5 days in a work week.) Is the Chinese food triggering acid reflux? What foods should she avoid to keep it from triggering? What foods are good for her to eat?
A: Just as everyone else has said, she needs to see a doctor but that really wasn’t your question…. hehe.
And she can find an over counter medication.
But she should advoid anything that has acid in it…. like…. pineapple, Orange juice, mandran oranges, gratefruit, etc. I am sure the chinese hasn’t been helping, they usually put a lot of acid in it not to mention soy sauce.
If she wants to go all natural and not use “medication” then she can drink milk, its a natural way to get rid of stomach acid. Or if that isn’t cutting it, she can go to her local health food store and they will totally give her stuff to help her a long.
I wouldn’t suggest avoiding acid foods forever, she can certainly eat them every once and awhile, just not more then two times a week, and that stretching it.
I hope I was helpful. =)
Q: what are symtoms of acid reflux and what foods help releive it?
i’ve never had acid reflux, but now out of nowhere i’ll get heartburn, and my spit will come up. earlier i ate hot Cheetos, soda, and chocolate.
and about 15 minutes ago my throat burned, it still kinda does, im drinking cold water and i keep having to spit, and i was wondering what are symtoms of acid reflux and what foods can releive it?
A: Heartburn. Heartburn is the primary symptom of GERD. It is a burning sensation that radiates up from the stomach to the chest and throat. Heartburn is most likely to occur in connection with the following activities:
After a heavy meal.
Bending over.
Lifting.
Lying down, particularly on the back.
According to one study, nearly three-quarters of patients with frequent GERD symptoms experience them at night. Patients with nighttime GERD also tend to experience more severe pain than those whose symptoms occur at other times. One study found that patients with night-time pain reported levels of severity that were similar to those reported in angina and congestive heart failure.
you may change ur breakfast and start having curd

Q: Acid Reflux – foods that I can eat?
I have been searching for what kinds of food I can eat online but some websites that I go to tell me that some foods are good, and others tell me that the same food is bad.
For example, yogurt. I read on some websites that low-fat or non-fat yogurt is good for someone with acid reflux. I just ate some Yoplait yogurt and on a couple of websites, it said that yogurt is bad for someone with acid reflux because dairy products produce acids.
I also bought some bananas, pretzels, I have rice and whole wheat bread.
What works for you and what doesn’t? Can sushi trigger acid reflux?
A: Different things will cause reflux for different people but some general rules of thumb are:
Stay away from fatty and greasy foods
Don’t smoke
Don’t drink alcohol
Stay away from spicy foods
Don’t get “over full”- eat small, more frequent meals
Don’t eat for several hours before you go to bed
Don’t lay down (even on the couch) for a couple hours after you eat
You can put some blocks under the foot pedals at the head of your bed to elevate it
If you have had reflux for several years you would need an endoscopy to see if you have barrett’s esophagus which can eventually lead to esophageal cancer
Ask your doctor about starting Omeprazole (Prilosec is the generic name)
Some foods you are going to have to figure out for yourself. For example every time I eat a NutraGrain Bar I get really bad reflux. It doesn’t fit into any category that they say to stay away from but it just doesn’t work with my body. Same thing with peppers. It will take some time to figure out what will work for you.
As far as the milk products go…. they will relieve your symptoms for a bit because they will coat your stomach, but they will produce acid so eventually it could kick you in the butt-just have to figure out what works for you.
Q: Best foods to reduce acid reflux?
I have a terrible time with Acid Reflux. I also want to lose weight. What are some filling foods that are healthy and good for Acid Reflux?
A: Anything high in calcium to drink, milk, soybean milk, rice milk, all good.
Q: Are there any foods that can help acid reflux?
I went to the doctor a few months ago after always have a lump in my throat. He told me I have acid reflux, and to take Pepcid twice a day. I took it for about a month, then I stopped because I kept forgetting. Now, it’s really bad, and I’m wondering if there are any foods that can help?
Thanks. =]
A: Not many people seem to be aware but its not so much what you eat as it is when you eat it. After you eat, do not go to sleep for at least 6 hours and you WILL see improvement. But not many of us Americans are willing to compromise when it comes to food. *cough Hence our obesity rate *cough.
Q: i have heart burn and acid reflux, what foods would be best to eat?
i want something thats light and wont worsen my condition.
thank you and i appreciate your answer!
A: Experiment a little to find out. Both my wife and I have the same thing but we find different things bring it on. Keep a “food diary” and make a note of what you eat and how bad your symptoms are in the hours following. Don’t mix too many foods in the same meal as you won’t be able to work out what’s causing the trouble.
Things we find best to avoid include:-
+ bread (anything with yeast in it but French Bread and Pitta Bread seem to be ok)
+ Onions and Garlic
+ Eggs
+ Fatty foods, especially if fried in animal oils
+ My wife finds tomatoes and cucumber cause problems but I’m OK with them
+ Tea and Coffee (but decaff is OK). My wife drinks Jasmine Tea which is very refreshing and actually seems to keep the acid and heartburn down
+ Coca Cola (and most other fizzy drinks, especially the diet brands)
Other advice:-
+ Eat little and often. Large meals cause problems
+ Drinking milk helps. If you get an “acid attack” at night a small glass of milk last thing at night often helps
+ Sit up straight while eating – at a dining table. Sitting cramped in a sofa in front of the TV is a bad idea
+ If you get acid attacks at night place a bolster or something under your mattress so your head is slightly higher than your stomach
Acid reflux is a sympton of hiatus hernia – and really you should get this checked out by a doctor (the procedure is very unpleasant – a camera is passed down into your stomach). Prolonged acid reflux causes damage to the wall if the oesophagus (gullet) where it changes to ressemble the stomach lining. This is called Barratt’s Oesophagus and often leads to oesophageal cancer.
Q: If you suffer from severe acid reflux, what foods can you eat,?
My son (vegetarian) has horrible acid reflux. Takes medication, but I would like to know I am not adding to the problem with the foods and beverages we have. I know fried foods are not a good thing, but what fruits and veggies are good? Also, how about nuts and peanut butter?
A: i have it. i have to take nexium for it…any acidy fruits like lemons, oranges, cherries, kiwis, are terrible. grapes, bananas, pears, apples(red) are good for it. pop and fruit juices are not that great. veggies are good, they are bland. but tomatoes are nt too good for it. and make sure he doesnt eat after 6 pm because since he has this it means that he doesnt digest as quickly as you and it will just sit there in his esophogas and he will be miserable……genler100@yahoo.com if u nd to know anything else…i feel for him…i go through this everyday.
Q: What are good foods for picky teens to eat with acid reflux?
I have acid reflux and I am a very pickey eatter and my mom doesnt know what to cook for me. I love milk products but they make me sick and I also LOVE spicy foods but they give me really bad stomaches and heartburn! Any suggestion?
A: I am also a teen with acid reflux and lactose intolerance so I feel for you. Here are some of my favorite foods that I eat a lot.
Pretzels (Favorite: Pretzel Goldfish)
Granola Bars (Quaker Chewy Bars)
Apples
Bananas
Peanut Butter
Almonds
Ice Pops / sorbet
Even if you haven’t been diagnosed with lactose intolerance try taking a lactaid pill (no prescription required) right as you start to eat dairy, it might help. Also if you are going to treat yourself to spicy food the best medicine after the fact for bad heartburn, I have found is Zantac
Q: What are good foods to eat to help remedy and keep hearburn ( acid reflux ) at bay?
What are good foods / drinks to have when you have acid reflux / heartburn?
Also are there natural cures, instead of meds?
A: Drew,
There are plenty of excellent natural remedies out there which could definitely help you achieve your goal. But let me suggest you first to try to reason and find the true cause of your heartburn or acid reflux. If you do so and remove the cause, you’ll be free for ever. Otherwise you’ll only mask the problem to find yourself not to long after with the same condition or worse.
Acid reflux is a defensive mechanism of the stomach which characterizes for an abnormal acid output. The main reason for this is the overwhelming amount–or constant management–of food by the stomach. Other reasons include: eating several meals a day, or snacking; drinking liquids with foods; overeating; late supper; over-cooked foods; low quality fats; etc.
Correct the issues mentioned above, give your stomach a brake by fasting for 1-2 days on papaya and/or apples, and then use these simple but powerful remedies:
Mix 1 teaspoon of each of these herbs (freshly cut) and put them to boil for 5 minutes, and let it seat for a while:
Oregano
Basil
Peppermint
Fig’s leaves
Sweeten it with a little honey or Agave Nectar. And add 20-25 drops of Licorice root extract to this tea. Drink 2-3 cups a day. And, DON’T EAT ANY FRIED FOODS WHATSOEVER! Milk and cheese should be avoided if you want a permanent fix.
FOODS TO AVOID
Milk, cheese, eggs, soda, refined foods (white bread, white sugar, white flour, etc.), vinegar, coffee, chocolate, sardines, very starchy foods, red beans (too high in nitrogen content), ice cream, onion, pickles, roasted nuts or seeds, and black/red pepper.
FOODS TO ENJOY
Apple, papaya, pears, sweet grapes (no the green one), figs (no dried), asparagus, sweet tomatoes, mango, cabbage (excellent to regenerate the stomach’s linen), steamed broccoli, garlic, ginger, raw nuts (specially almonds), artichoke, brown rice, olive oil (extra virgin and first cold press), and carrot.
This is easy to do, effective, and affordable!
I already know the results…
Good luck!
Q: For those who have heartburn quite often, or acid reflux, what kinds of foods and drinks will aggravate you?
What kinds of foods do you cut back on, or avoid all together, and beverages, because if you have these items, it will make your condition worse, or cause you to have heart burn or acid reflux?
Do any of you also find if you eat too much, you will also spend the day having gas?
Thanks for your input!
A: Pizza is my favorite food and also my worse enemy, but all the ones that others have mention set’s mine off, but pizza usually send me to the ER for a cock tail to get it stopped. . Bless you sweetie. hate you have this.
Q: When breastfeeding, are there any foods can cause acid reflux that I should avoid?
I have been told by several people to eat a very bland diet and then reintroduce to see what foods my baby may have reactions too.
I am looking for any foods that would cause the baby acid reflux.
A: The most likely offender is cow’s milk products (in baby’s or mom’s diet). Other things to ask yourself: is baby getting anything other than breastmilk – formula, solids (including cereal), vitamins (fluoride, iron, etc.), medications, herbal preparations? Is mom taking any medications, herbs, vitamins, iron, etc.?
