Medical Diagnosis -> Symptoms: Acid Reflux and Bloody stool. What could it be?
A good friend of mine called me up the other day and she told me that about 2 years ago she was diagnosed with Acid Reflux disease, she said she went for an Upper GI and all and it confirmed it, she was put on Prevacid and when that didn;t work she began using Nexium, that put a stop to it after taking only 1/2 of the first perscibed bottle. Now she tells me she has found bood in her stool (fecies) and she is worried something may be wrong. I said “Julie you should see a doctor” but she said she was too embarrassed. What could she have? I looked around online with her and we didn’t find anything, but the symptoms sound to me like a stomach ulcer or IBS or some other problem with her stomach or intestines. Does anyone know what she could have? Do you think it’s serious? What do you know about it?

A: ulcerated collitus, it has something to do with your colon. My friend has this she has to get colonoscamys and take meds. sorry for the spelling those are hard words.

Q: How can you tell the difference between GERD/acid reflux symptoms and a problem with the aorta?
I’ve had sharp, stabbing pains in the upper stomach area (and a multitude of other symptoms) for a few months now and they seem to be getting worse. How can I differentiate between GERD or acid reflux type symptoms, and something like aortic stenosis or an aortic dissection.

A: I’m not sure but if you find out let me know :) I have had a constant full feeling in my upper stomach over the last few days and its doing my head in. I haven’t got much of an appetite but feel full, had a dodgy stomach a week ago. I went to my gp and he has given me some Merbentyl as he said it should settle things down and he thought it was just a bug that i have but i’m not convinced.

Q: What are the symptoms of acid reflux and How can you tell if you have it?
Lately my throat has felt like its burning and acid-y. It also feels like I have to burp after I eat. Are these symptoms of acid reflux?

A: Patients with acid reflux often report suffering from nausea. In fact, nausea as a result of acid reflux is so common that when a patient experiences nausea with no apparent cause, a doctor usually suspects acid reflux as the culprit.

Equally as common as nausea occurring from acid reflux is regurgitation. Regurgitation occurs when refluxed liquid actually backs up into the mouth. Sometimes, this liquid can contain food. When a patient regurgitates, they often experience a burning sensation as refluxed liquid and food bypass the UES (upper esophageal sphincter) and make their way into the mouth. This burning is often accompanied by an awful, acidic taste. If a patient continues to experience regurgitation, it can actually cause damage to their teeth as the acidic substance erodes the enamel that encases each tooth.

Probably the most common reported complaint of acid reflux patients is the presence of heartburn. This is usually characterized as a searing pain in the chest. It can either begin in your upper abdomen or actually travel up to your neck. For some patients, this can be a cause for alarm. In fact, many people have mistaken painful acid reflux for a heart attack. Heartburn is especially prevalent after eating meals. Although heartburn usually goes away, the bad news is that it is usually a lifelong problem that will eventually return.

Hope this helps…

Q: What are the symptoms of Acid Reflux?
What are the symptoms of Acid Reflux?

A: Basically, painful heartburn, which can occur at any time, but many people suffer it when lying down at night.

Symptoms can differ; but mainly consist of nausea/sickness, burning pain (heartburn), especially after meals or on lying down. Sometimes relief from the pain is only obtained by making oneself sick.

If you suspect you have this, then visit your doctor as soon as you can. It is easily cured, unless you are taking tablets which may cause this as a side-effect.

Q: What are all of the symptoms of acid reflux disease?
Preferrably people who have acid reflux only please.

A: Heartburn more than 2 times per week and very severe, worse at nighttime, isn’t helped much by OTC heartburn meds, and often accompanied by bad tastes in your mouth and sometimes even burping.

Once in a while you might have an “episode” I don’t know how else to name it. Your heart beats faster, your chest hurts, your palms get sweaty, and you feel like you’re gonna have a heart attack, but it’s actually acid reflux.

Q: Does anyone know the symptoms of acid reflux?
i have been to the docter and he didnt know what it was? But i think its acid reflux. what are the symptoms of acid reflux?

A: sure i had it, The first and more noticeable symptom is the heartburn. You wake up in the middle of the night with a terrible burning sensation that starts by your upper stomach and can even reach your throrat. You can also develop a hiatal hernia, which means that the valve that keep the hydrochloric acid into the stomach is defective due to the same action of the acid and then there is a discomfort right where the ribs cage opens to the stomach. If you suspect that you suffer acid reflux there is something you can do to test (out of the gastroscopy test), put 1 or 2 inches high bricks underneath the upper side of your bed, in order for your body to sleep in an angle. The gravity will keep the acid in your stomach and you will feel immediate relief. You will wake up fresh and happy, then you know what you were missing. I was treated of hiatal hernia and reflux, got over it tks to this little advice my doc gave me.. opps i forgot something , antiacids are to be used only under pain to avoid extra burning of tissue during a crisis but not as treatment!!!! inhibitors of the proton pump are the right choice, but the bricks are the best! good luck

Q: Quick cure for acid reflux symptoms?
I have acid reflux but some times run out of priloce is there any at home quik remedies?

A: I have the same problem. Sorry man. Prilosec is the best thing I’ve found yet. If you have some Tums or Rolaids around they work for an hour or so at a time. A glass of milk helps for maybe an hour, but just a little.

How can you reduce the symptoms?

A: have apple or pineapple juice. thy sort your stomach out straight away. or black grapes before bed time and have warm water after it. constipation can cause i t, eating too fast can cause it too or just your metablism can do it. stress causes it. all sorts can bring it on. spicy food too etc. for some ppl milk works, for others, it makes it worse. depends which one of them u are.

Q: what are the symptoms of acid reflux in a newborn?
I have a 1 month old baby boy. He has been spitting up every time he eat and when we lay him down he will sometimes spit up more than twice. We burp him after every ounce he drinks and at night he will wake up crying.
he is drinking formula he drinks similac advance

A: spitting up, or just making an “urp” sound in the back of the throat”
often arching the back and fussing while eating
often seeming to gulp food

1 month is the age where babies frequently become more efficient nursers, and for many of them, they are more swallowing faster than they can deal with, so they temporarily get reflux symptoms. These usually go away w/in a week as baby learns to deal with eating faster. If your son has just started doing this, that might be the cause.

Some things you can do to help are avoiding clothing that is tight around the waist, burping well (as you are), feeding him sitting up (but not slumped forward, like babies can be in a bouncy chair), and elevating the head end of his mattress by placing a pillow or book under it.

If this persists more than a few days, or your son is spitting up considerable amounts, or it frequently smells like vomit (ie, is coming from his stomach, not what he just swallowed), I would at least call your drs office and talk to a nurse; they can tell you whether your son needs to be seen right away or not.

Q: What are some signs/symptoms of Acid Reflux Disease?
I have awful heartburn at random times during the day, prominent when I run or exercise. painful stinging in back of throat.

A: Usually for acid reflux your body makes alot of acid, and you may feel kinda sick in the morning from this buildup. If you feel stinging in the back of your throat it could be from the acid coming from your stomach, it happens when the muscle in your esophagus does not close all the way thus letting acid come up, especially if you are laying down which can become serious since it can burn your lining of your throat inside. It would be a good idea to see a doctor because if it is acid reflux he can give you some medications. Good luck

Q: Are these symptoms of Acid Reflux? And what can I do about it?
Every time I wake up in the morning I have this rancid taste/smell in my mouth.. I can barely eat any non-bland foods due to the heart burn factor. I cant stand this anymore all help is appreciated… Oh and during the day I burp up stomach acid…

A: Acid reflux is caused when your stomachs digestive acids make their way up into the esophagus. If you suffer from acid reflux on a regular basis, there is a chance that it may be the result of another more serious condition called gastroesophogeal reflux disease. See your doctor, and in the meantime take Myalanta effervescent tablets dissolved in water.

Q: What are the symptoms of Acid Reflux Disease (GERD)????

A: I’ve had it for several years. Symptoms vary with the individual. Mine mimicked those of a heart attack at first. Chest pain, pain in right arm, sudden, profuse sweating, light-headedness. I drove myself to the hospital, was kept overnight for observation, passed a stress test with no problems, nothing else was found. That’s when acid reflux was diagnosed. Sometimes it’s mere heartburn, but there are times, especially in the morning, when I suddenly feel lousy, tightness in my chest, I begin to sweat, but I don’t panic anymore because I know that in a few minutes, I’ll burp a couple of times and get rid of the gas that causes the symptoms, and then I feel just fine.

Zantac works pretty well but I take it only when I get the symptoms in the evening, before bed.
