Q: Heartburn Symptoms?
Could some one tell me the symptoms for heartburn, and ways to put out the fire
A: This what you can look for:
Difficult or pain when swallowing
Vomiting with blood
Bloody or black stool
shortness of breath
Dizziness or light-headness
pain radiating into your neck and shoulder
In addition, know that heartburn cause by simple acid reflux is normally worse after meals. If your heartburn worsens before meal it may be a sign of an ulcer.
Loosen your belt. Think again of the toothpaste analogy, Many people can get relief from hertburn simply by wearing suspenders instead of a belt.
Q: How long to develop heartburn symptoms?
I would like to determine which foods or drinks trigger my heartburn. Generally, for people who suffer from heartburn, after eating or drinking a trigger food, when I would expect heartburn symptoms? For example, 1 hour later after eating or 3 hours?
Yes I am also taking prilosec, but it has not been sufficient so I need to adjust my diet.
A: As part of your diet for GERD, you may want to avoid:
•Fried and fatty foods
•Chocolate
•Peppermint
•Tomato products
•Foods and drinks that contain caffeine
•Alcoholic beverages.
Coffee and alcohol actually stimulate your stomach to make more acid than usual. Alcohol, chocolate, and fatty foods are believed to cause the lower esophageal sphincter to weaken. The combination of too much stomach acid and a weak lower esophageal sphincter can increase the symptoms of GERD.
Other foods can make your symptoms worse. These include:
•Garlic
•Onions
•Carbonated beverages, such as soda
•Mustard
•Certain spices
•Vinegar
•Citrus fruits and juices.
I also find digestive enzymes help for me and to really chew your food more before swallowing. I would also raise the head of your bed six inches. For me, the tomato sauce is the worst.
Q: Is it okay to have heartburn symptoms at my age?
i’m 16 i just randomly get a short pain under my left side but it goes away. it’s hard to believe it would be heat attack symptoms becuase i’m only 16, i don’t smoke or drink and i excercise. so do u think it could just be heartburn?
A: Yes, it can be possible to have heart burn even at 16. Heart burn can occur because of some of the things we eat. Some are more sensitive to spices (an example only) than others.
Also, sometimes gas can cause pain in the side as you described. I’ve had it happen to me before.
I would recommend letting your mom know what’s going on so that she can help you keep an eye on the situation and also your doctor for further check of the situation to see what they say.
Q: Should I be concerned with sudden heartburn symptoms?
Suddenly, without change in diet or behavior, I am getting mild heartburn after everytime I eat. What could cause this? What do I do to get this to stop?
I am 24 and I am not overweight. I have a normal BMI.
A: depends a lot on your age, health, weight etc. However make sure you drink plenty of plain water to help dilute the acid in the stomach and avoid spicy and rich foods.
Do not lie down soon after eating and it’s better to have a large meal at noon and less at night.
Heartburn is often mistaken for heart prooblems so you would be wise to have a GP check it out.
Q: I’m experiencing sour stomach symptoms, but not the heartburn; what can I do to alleviate this problem?
I am experiencing the belching and discomfort in the stomach, but not the symptoms of heartburn. Just the sour stench when I belch. It also causes nausea at times. I have tried baking soda water, antacids, and eating bland foods, but nothing seems to work to alleviate this problem.
A: oh yes. I know just what you mean.
I doubt you will like this but I usually have to put my finger down my throat and just throw it up. I promise you will be 100 percent with this quick but nasty home remedy. Even my Dr said this will last for days before your body absorbs all the acid you created. and then you will probably throw up anyway.
That sulfur smell you are burping will get into your swet glands too and nobody will sit by you.
Just throw up and feel better in 10 mins.
Q: Endoscopy test for heartburn symptoms was done on me and I got my results?
and my letter said that they found inflamination in the biopsies they had taken during the test. What does that mean? I called my doctor and they have a machine where you leave a message and they call you back so I was just wanting to know what you all thought until they call me back.
could the inflamination be ulcers?
A: The inflammation that they found is due from the irritation that’s caused to the esophagus from the acid. That can be an ulcer. Inflammation is a very general, waste-basket term that pathologists use. It’s not serious but can be later on (research Barret’s esophagus). Wait for your doctor and ask what “inflammation” means specifically.
Sincerely,
doc
Q: How do I build up stomach acid so I don’t suffer from heartburn symptoms?
A: First if you are on or taking any heartburn medication you’ll need to stop. If it is prescription definately talk to your doctor about what you want.
Second if you are getting heart burn b/c of lack of acid then try drinking vinegar before eating. Yep it’s gross in my opinion but the extra acid from the vinegar will help.
Q: Are heartburn and constipation symptoms of early pregnancy?
I have been ttc for 3 months, ovulated around a week or so ago and have started to get heartburn and constipation. i read somewhere that this could be an early sign? period due on the 15th.
i have never had problems with either of these things before, am also nauseus and tired and every emotional.
A: The First Trimester
(Week 1 – Week 12)
More about the First Trimester
Your period stops or becomes very light.
You may feel nausea or queasiness. Some women vomit. (“Morning sickness” can happen any time of day — it may help to eat small meals throughout the day, snack on crackers or toast, or drink juice or lemonade.)
Your breasts swell and may be tender.
Your nipples and the area around the nipples (areola) get darker and broader.
You have to urinate more often.
You feel tired.
You may become constipated and have heartburn (Tums may help).
You may have headaches.
You experience mood swings — feel angry, sad, or happy for no reason.
Q: What exactly are the various symptoms for heartburn?
ok…what can heartburn feel like…other than a burning heart as the description indicates? Or is that it? Trying to figure out if my husband is experiencing heartburn or something else.
A: Heartburn is a symptom.
Care to try again?
Q: Does amoxicillin give heartburn like symptoms?
I finished taking my prescription of Amoxicillin 5 days ago , and I’ve had headaches and now I have this heartburn-like feeling in my chest…
thanks david, it did help a lot.. i think you’re right !
my amoxicillin was to kill my tooth infection
A: It can.
Antibiotics kill bacteria, bacteria in the gut help with digestion and many of these will be killed by the antibiotics.
It should be on the list of side effects in the packaging.
I hope this is helpful
Q: strange symptoms, severe heartburn, white tongue, burning chest?
My husband is an alcoholic. Three days ago he started to have really strange symptoms. At first he had hiccups for two days, then severe heartburn, to the point that he can’t eat or drink anything but water, and now is tongue is completely white. Please help. I want to help him feel better but I have no clue what I should do. He also has an ulcer.
A: It sounds like he’s suffering the ill effects of the alcohol abuse. What you’re describing is a rather nasty case of gastric reflux. If left alone he risks developing ulcers of the esophagus, that is if he hasn’t already. Likely the ulcer he already has [presumably in the stomach] is a result of the alcohol.
He truly needs to get some help and control of his alcoholism, but in the mean time I’d recommend having him see his doctor, who could prescribe something like NEXIUM to help with the gastric reflux.
Good luck!
Q: Pleurisy symptoms and heartburn?
Can the sharp pain symptomatic of pleurisy be mistaken for heartburn? Is it a similar pain. Or can heartburn itself be a symptom of pleurisy?
A: “Heart burn” can be experienced as chest pain. Pleuritic pain is can be felt sharply in the area of the lung where it is located. “Pleurisy, also known as pleuritis, is an inflammation of the pleura, the lining of the pleural cavity surrounding the lungs, which can cause painful respiration (also called pleuritic chest pain) and other symptoms. Pleurisy can be generated by a variety of infectious and non-infectious causes. The effects of pleurisy can often be felt long after the condition has gone away”
“Chest pain caused by heart burn is accompanied by a burning sensation. Chest pain, pressure or tightness that is not accompanied by a burning sensation is cause for immediate medical attention. Whenever chest pain is involved it is best to use caution. Some people have confused the early symptoms of a heart attack with a heart burn symptom. Delaying seeking medical attention can be deadly. Any heart burn sign that occurs once or more per week should be evaluated by your physician. A heart burn symptom can be a symptom of another medical condition”
Q: Chronic Heartburn symptoms?
I’m 22 years old, and Ive had heartburn for as long as I can remember. Everytime I would eat sour candy, mexican candy/food, and hot cheetoes as a kid my throat and chest would burn for a little while afterwards. My mom always had it and so I didn’t think much of it. As I’ve gotten older though, the symptoms have become more intense, even though I don’t eat that way anymore. I find that whenever I eat anything it’s always difficult to digest and I feel like all the food I had just eaten is lumped up right where my neck and chest meet. The newest and strangest feeling I’ve been having is a burning/tightness sensation in what feels like my right bronchial tube? It feels almost like when you spend a day at the pool and later that evening your lungs feel sore from expanding them while holding your breath underwater. I don’t know how else to explain it, and franky I’m not even sure if it has anything to do with acid reflux. I also get sharp pains in my upper back. It’s real depressing!
A: Might be time to get on serious meds for acid reflux. Or an ulcer maybe.
But that sensation of chest pain on the right side and upper back reminds me of my first gall bladder attack….you need to get checked out.
Q: what are the symptoms of heartburn and heart palipitations?
A: Your first contributor is right about heartburn but WRONG about heart palpitations. It does feel like a skipped beat BUT it does NOT cause pain down your left arm or cause dizziness. If you feel those symptoms GO TO A HOSPITAL, YOU ARE HAVING A HEART ATTACK, NOT A PALPITATION. I have heart palpitations all the time, they are caused mostly from stress. Everyone has palpitations but most don’t even feel them. Those who do know they are not dangerous unless they continue without stopping. I was a paramedic for many years, palpitations cause no pain in your left arm and cause no dizziness. You may have a pain in the middle of your chest (between your breasts) that goes away faster that you can say ouch. That is from stress, try to relax and it will go away. Don’t get scared, relax.
Q: what are symptoms of heartburn?
i have chest pain and some palpitations 3 months ago. my doctor requested a chest xray and the result was normal. i was not satisfied so i insist for an echocardiogram even though im only 20 yrs old male. the result was normal echocardiographic and doppler findings. sometimes i have shortness of breath and nausea. is it possible that i have heartburn? im nauseous every after meal. i smoke 6-8 sticks a day.
A: Symptoms of heartburn ARE chest pain/shortness and nausea, just like heart problems. However, since the doc says you are normal, go to Wal-Mart and get some PRILOSEC OTC and try it for a while. Will probably help, and watch what you eat and how it affects you. I have found that your basic canned PEACHES and its juice kills the pain fast! I am older and have the problem worse, so I had an endoscopy (doesn’t hurt to have it done–parascope down your throat/esphoagus), and am on the Nexium Purple Pill…the upgrade expensive prescription from PRILOSEC. Also, try to cut the smokes…makes it worse.
