Q: Are heartburn and constipation symptoms of early pregnancy?
I have been ttc for 3 months, ovulated around a week or so ago and have started to get heartburn and constipation. i read somewhere that this could be an early sign? period due on the 15th.
i have never had problems with either of these things before, am also nauseus and tired and every emotional.

A: The First Trimester
(Week 1 – Week 12)

More about the First Trimester
Your period stops or becomes very light.
You may feel nausea or queasiness. Some women vomit. (“Morning sickness” can happen any time of day — it may help to eat small meals throughout the day, snack on crackers or toast, or drink juice or lemonade.)
Your breasts swell and may be tender.
Your nipples and the area around the nipples (areola) get darker and broader.
You have to urinate more often.
You feel tired.
You may become constipated and have heartburn (Tums may help).
You may have headaches.
You experience mood swings — feel angry, sad, or happy for no reason.

Q: What are very very early pregnancy symptoms. Heartburn, nasuea. Can they be as early as 10 days after…?
conception?

A: Yes they can. Every person is different. You can experience symptoms very early.

Q: Heartburn a symptom of pregnancy or period?
My period is 2 weeks late (maybe one because my cycle is so irregular that it would sometimes come at the last week of the month) and 2 days ago I went to get a urine test at the doctor’s which came back negative. I don’t have any other symptoms except usual period cramps and last night for the first time I had mild heartburn. I’m also taking strep throat antibiotics which have heartburn as a side effect. So I’m wondering if I should worry or my panicking is delaying my period even more.

A: First off, you’ve got way too much going on to narrow it down. Antibiotics cancel out birth control pills if you’re on those. If your period is irregular, then I would wait for other symptoms and see if it’s just lates because it wants to be. Diet and exercise and routine changes can effect your cycle. Heartburn is a symptom that pregnant females have but usually because they’re eating so much. Wait a few more weeks and see what happens. If you’re not trying to get pregnant, use a condom.

Q: Heartburn pregnancy symptom?
My period is late about a little over a week now…We are TTC, and have not had any pregnancy symptoms. I have a question…Can heartburn be a symptom? I have never experience heartburn in my life and for the passed 3 days I have been getting it after i eat…I will test soon but trying to hold off until the end of the week…I just don’t want t o test and it be negative and be disappointed even though I know I could test already…Has anyone ever experienced this before where they have had heartburn as an early pregnancy symptom but have never had it before?

A: Im 14 weeks now and thats how i knew i was pregnant BEFORE i tested. The whole week before i was supposed to start i had severe heartburn, and i never have heartburn ever, Even bread and cereal were giving me heartburn! So i would deffinatly say its a possibility!

Q: Is my heartburn a pregnancy symptom?
I’m taking prenatal vitamins that my doctor recommended since we are trying to conceive. I usually never have heartburn unless I drink alcohol and lay down right away…but I have not have any alcohol in almost 6 months. Is my heartburn a pregnancy symptom or just a side effect of the vitamins?? I’m in my tww :-/..I can’t test until the 27th. Thanks!

A: Heartburn is one of the symptoms of pregnancy…my sis had it too. Do u have any other symptoms? If it is due to vitamins(generally not), u would have heartburn within the first two days of starting it. How long have u been taking it? Skip the vitamins for a day and see if u still have it…If so, u might be preggs! Loads of babydust!!!

Q: All symptoms like pregnancy and all tests showing negative?
My wife is having all these symptoms: Heartburn, swelling, fatigue, tender breasts, cramps, bloating, aches. Period has been very irregular for the past 7 months. A week later than the previous cycle, each cycle. Took 2 home pregnancy tests and came out negative. Took one at the Health Dept. and it was also negative. Any idea what could be going on? if you can please cite your sources. THANKS!

A: A friend of mine swore she was pregnant and had irregular, light cycles and went to the doctor. The doctor told her she was anemic and sent her home. Two weeks later she gave birth to her son in her bathroom. Moral of the story: unless the doctor has given her a pelvic exam, the first doctor could be wrong. Her hormones may be lying to the pee-stick! Get a second opinion and demand a pelvic exam.

Q: Is heartburn an early pregnancy symptom?
I have been having really bad heartburn for the past week now, I am expecting my period in 6 days… just wondering if heartburn can start this early in pregnancy?

A: I have heard it’s possible! Not sure but I am going through the same thing right now, since 8dpo i have been having horrible heartburn! Its so acidic, i feel a little nauseous when it flares up too! I’m currently at 10dpo and it’s only gotten worse. Hope you feel better and get a positive on a pregnancy test if that is what you want!

Q: Is it possible to have early pregnancy symptom of heartburn in the first week?
Okay, I have (1) child and i knew within a month into the pregnancy I was expecting because my body changed so drastically, BUT i think i may be now (hope i may be), and if i am pregnant i know exactly when it happened :) ,,,,, 8 days ago. My question is…for the past 3 -4 days i have constant heart burn, no matter what I eat/drink and My breast feel “heavier/fuller” (if that makes sense) but aren’t sore and everything i have read says they should feel sore. So,is it possible to have heart burn as a pregnancy symptom THIS early or am I just losing it?

A: well you could be pregnant obviously it is too early to tell. I think that you are so in tune to your body right now becaue you want to be pregnant.

Q: Is feeling gassy with heartburn an early pregnancy symptom?
I was just wondering since Ive been feeling heartburn almost dailly along with feeling gassy(burping). I also been feeling really emotional lately with a bit of nasua. Do you think these are pregnancy signs or more like i got food poisoning?haah.
ohh and Im taking HPT unitl sat!!!

A: Well the heartburn doesn’t usually set in untill later but im sure there have been pregnant women with heartburn early on, Everthing else totally sounds like preg. symptoms but it could also be pms type stuff.
If it were food poisoning you would know, you would probably not have time to make it out of the bathroom to write this if it were food poisoning.
Good luck on your preg test.

Q: Pregnancy Signs Symptoms Back ache, Heartburn, Tiredness and Bloated. Would be around 4 – 5 weeks?
Period 3 days late. My boobs are normally sore 2 days before my period, but not sore at all right now. Do you think I might be pregnant?

A: well the body is a fuuny thing, she can trick you. sounds like you might be, take a test. you never know. you breast might not hurt yet.

Q: TTC and Confused? I have had so many pregnancy symptoms this month, nasua, heartburn, Boobs are super sore…
and I’ve been having period like cramps for the last week or so which I usually dont have to bad. My periods due on Wednesday………But I took a first responce test today (it says 5 days before period) and it was Negative=(…..Was it all my mind paying tricks on me or is something else up?

A: From everything I’ve read and heard, the hormone that trips the test may not have built up in your system enough. Try to wait. Also, they say you get a better result if you do the test first thing in the morning, again because the hormone level will be higher. I wouldn’t rule it out yet. The really sucky thing is that pregnancy symptoms are so similar to period symptoms. I hate that.

Q: What I can take to stop my heartburn during my pregnancy?
This is my second pregnancy and the symptoms are worst then the first. What can I take to stop my heartburn. Milk isn’t helping. I had a corn muffin this morning and throat felt like it was on fire. A simple corn muffin. HELP!!!

A: Bananas do the same thing to me… w/every pregnancy I’ve had! I feel you hun… Tums usually worked for me, but in moderation. I only took one at a time and only when absolutely necessary. If you’re not sure about taking meds (even Tums) a bottle of room temp water may work for you. You may have to pee more, but at least the heartburn will be gone! Good luck to you and baby!

Q: is this heartburn?, and is heartburn a pregnancy symptom?
today all day i’ve been having this pain in my chest that is smack in the middle of my boobs, a little higher up though… its like tight pressure like feeling in my chest (breastbone area) basically.

is this a form of heartburn? and also, is it a sign of very early pregnancy???. (I am not sure if i am indeed pregnant yet, if i was id be exactly 4 weeks though)

thanks!

A: It’s different for everyone.

Q: Is it normal to have severe heartburn in the early stages of pregnancy?
I have a feeling that i may be pregnant but just haven’t got round to taking a test yet. I have suffered severe heartburn, dizziness and slight nausea in the past 4 days. I know that nausea is a common pregnancy symptom, but it is normal to have heartburn this early on in pregnancy? I would be two weeks maximum! Any advise would be gratefully received!!

A: This is common. Take either Zantac or Prilosec once a day. Then use Tums (chewable calcium tabs) for breakthrough heartburn. All these meds are OTC and fine to take while pregnant.

Q: Old wives tales about pregnancy symptoms and the outcome of the newborn?
Ive heard that if you have heartburn your whole pregnancy that you’ll have a baby with full head of hair. Ive also heard that if the baby is more active at night that when its born it has the nights and daytime mixed up. Either one true or has anyone had experience with this? Just wondering cus I have both issues going on. Ive had horrible heartburn and at night I swear I am going to give birth to a NINJA! Thanks for any answers! (but please dont be rude just to get points)

A: My daughter had a full head of hair and I never had heartburn. I don’t think that it is due to hair growth.

During pregnancy, the placenta produces the hormone progesterone, which relaxes the smooth muscles of the uterus. This hormone also relaxes the valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach, allowing gastric acids to seep back up, which causes that unpleasant burning sensation.

Progesterone also slows down the wavelike contractions of your esophagus and intestines, making digestion sluggish. Later in pregnancy, your growing baby crowds your abdominal cavity, pushing the stomach acids back up into the esophagus.
Avoid food and beverages that cause you gastrointestinal distress. The usual suspects are carbonated drinks; alcohol (which you should avoid anyway during pregnancy); caffeine; chocolate; acidic foods like citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes, mustard, and vinegar; processed meats; mint products; and spicy, highly seasoned, fried, or fatty foods. Don’t eat big meals. Instead, eat several small meals throughout the day. Take your time eating and chew thoroughly. Avoid drinking large quantities of fluids during meals — you don’t want to distend your stomach. (It’s important to drink eight to ten glasses of water daily during pregnancy, but sip it between meals.) Try chewing gum after eating. Chewing gum stimulates your salivary glands, and saliva can help neutralize acid. Don’t eat close to bedtime. Give yourself two to three hours to digest before you lie down. Sleep propped up with several pillows or a wedge. Elevating your upper body will help keep your stomach acids where they belong and will aid your digestion. Gain a sensible amount of weight, and stay within the guidelines your healthcare provider suggests. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Avoid any tightness around your waist and tummy. Bend at the knees instead of at the waist.

Regarding the movement that is also not true. A baby can’t really tell day by night in your stomach, they don’t know what that is just yet. My baby would wake up at night and keep me awake during the night with her kicking and wiggling around. She is 6 month old and loves sleeping during the night, it’s a different story during the day. By day 2 after her birth she learned what day and night was and starting sleeping at night (even if that involved waking up every 2 hours to eat).
I remember reading about this. When you are walking around you are lulling the baby to sleep, but when you lie down the movement stops and the baby wakes up. When the baby is up it wants to move around. That is also the reason why the baby calms down when you are rocking him/her because they are used to that sensation while in the stomach.

All the old wives tales were not true for me. Every one told me that I will have a boy ( the stomach, the needle, the Drano, palm facing up, you name it it pointed to a boy) and even I believed it, imagine the surprise when my OB said it’s a girl.
