Q: explain in detail the cause, symptoms, and treatment of heartburn.?

A: In a nutshell. Heartburn is caused by the gastric acid in your stomach to come up through your esophagus. This acid will burn your esophageal walls causing the burning sensation in your chest. A few causes are your food and drinks. Do you eat a lot of fruit? Stuff like oranges, lemons, grapefruit are all very acidic. My biggest problem is fried foods and pop. Fried foods can really put a hurt on you. The other thing is pop. I’m a huge Coke drinker. Coke, Gatorate and lemonade are VERY acidic. Anything acidic will get bouts of heartburn going. There are a ton a rx’s for heartburn… Prevacid, Protonix, Aciphex. Some of the over-the-counter products would be Prilosec, tums and the BEST product – ->> MILK! When I get heartburn I drink milk. Milk kinda acts like a firehose on a housefire (just as an example.) Milk will give you almost immediate relief. Good luck… (from 1 fellow hearburn sufferer to another.)

Q: Went off of Prilosec a couple of weeks ago and now have worse heartburn than before?
I was on it for 3 months and my symptoms went away. But since I’ve been off, they’ve been worse than every. Does anyone know of any herbal remedies or other treatments that are effective?

A: Believe it or not vinegar works wonders for heartburn. Sleep on your left side… No coffee, no alcohol, no cigarettes, no spicy foods, no PORK! (at least these are my no no’s!) I still drink wine, I still smoke, I still eat pork occassionally, but all these things give me extreme heartburn!!! LOL~ great advice giver huh?? I take Famotadine for my heartburn, 40mg in morning and 40mg at night…sometimes I get the breakthrough heartburn while I am trying to sleep… Most always try to sleep on your left side, which keeps your asophogous over your heart – dont know why this works, but it does. The main thing to remember is heartburn is sometimes symptomatic of other health problems…I do suggest a trip to the doctor and get checked out… Its worth it even if you have to go to a walk in clinic….In my case I dont have health insurance because I cant afford it. But I couldn’t survive without the medicine… I have bad acid reflux – which if not treated does cause problems with a number of things in your throat too.

Q: does anyone knw any info about omeprazole im doin a drug project in health and i need something intersesting?
*****DO NOT READDDD** ITS JUST THE INFO I GOT ALREADDYY.

Omeprazole
Generic Name: omeprazole (oh MEP ra zol)
Brand names: Prilosec
What is omeprazole?
Omeprazole decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Omeprazole is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid. It is also used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid).
Omeprazole may also be given together with antibiotics to treat gastric ulcer caused by infection with helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).
Omeprazole may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Important information omeprazole
Before using omeprazole, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have heart disease or liver disease. You may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take this medication.
Omeprazole is not for immediate relief of heartburn symptoms.
Some conditions are treated with a combination of omeprazole and antibiotics. To best treat your condition, use all of your medications as directed by your doctor. Be sure to read the medication guide or patient instructions provided with each of your medications. Do not change your doses or medication schedule without advice from your doctor.
Take omeprazole for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the condition is completely treated.
Prilosec OTC (over-the-counter) should be taken only once every 24 hours for 14 days. It may take up to 4 days for full effect. Do not take more than one tablet every 24 hours.
Allow at least 4 months to pass before you start another 14-day treatment with Prilosec OTC. Call your doctor if you have additional symptoms and need treatment before the 4 months has passed.
Heartburn is often confused with the first symptoms of a heart attack. Seek emergency medical attention if you have chest pain or heavy feeling, dizziness, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, sweating, nausea or vomiting, and a general ill feeling.
Before taking omeprazole
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to omeprazole.

How should I take omeprazole?
Omeprazole is not for immediate relief of heartburn symptoms.

Omeprazole is usually taken before eating. Follow your doctor’s instructions.
Do not crush, chew, or break an omeprazole enteric-coated tablet. Swallow the tablet whole. The enteric-coated tablet has a special coating to protect your stomach. Breaking the tablet could damage this coating.
You may open the omeprazole delayed-release capsule and sprinkle the medicine into a spoonful of applesauce to make swallowing easier. Swallow this mixture right away without chewing. Do not save the mixture for later use. Discard the empty capsule.
Dissolve the powder in a small amount of water. Use 1 teaspoon of water for the 2.5-mg packet, or 1 tablespoon of water for the 10-mg packet. Let the mixture stand for 2 or 3 minutes, then stir and drink right away. To make sure you get the entire dose, ad

Q: Its 3 am and I have heartburn. This is the first time, please I dont have any meds, any remedy help please.?
I woke up feeling like I couldn’t breathe, right now I feel like I have something blocking the back of my throat like I have to burp, and then it goes down my chest and it burns so incredibly bad…my boyfriend told me it’s probably heartburn, and the symptoms seem correct, I tried to look up treatments but the ones on WebMD etc are all prescription meds, which I dont have…any relief right now would really help

A: heat a cup with hot water, take sips of it, might take a couple or more cups, but you should start burping, which will relieve it. i know it is scary, so try not to worry… i will say that if after a hour of sipping hot water and you do not get relief, i would call your local hospital and ask to talk to a advice nurse… if it does not get better i would go to the er for more help… hope the hot water works, it does for me………..

Q: Which disease has these symptoms: irritating throat, dry throat, vomit white liquid/spiting her saliva…?
and coughing?

It’s been 3 months now and my mom still suffer from these symptoms, and the stupid doctor still does NOT know what causing it. She gave her cough medicine and it didn’t work, then she gave her some kind of inhaler and still not working. I took her to another doctor and she turned out more idiot than the other one. She gave her an prevacid which like a heart burn medicine. Even though she doesn’t suffer from heartburn she still took and it didn’t work.

Have you or any one you know suffered from these symptoms and what was it and the treatment.
Thanks for any help.

A: Sounds like a bad case of allergies!! I too have been “sick” for 5 months, been to many doctors that don’t know thier head from thier butts!! LOL They have me taking different 3 different allergy medication, decongestant, was on antibotic and steriods for a short time!! Just wondering if you live in Texas? I have been to a pulmonary specialist, still nothing. The vomit that you are talking about, is Phlegm/mucus, as long as its white there is not infection! When it starts turning colors, yellow, green… then there is an infection!!

Hope she feels better, wish I could help… going through the same issues!! Nothing seems to help!! I was informed to ask my doctors about prednisone, it is used for many things, and severe allergic reaction is one of them… maybe your mom needs to do the same!!

Hope this helps!!

Q: Help!! Im having really bad symptoms lately, and it’s super horrible!?
It all started like 3 weeks ago.I had chest pain the doctor said that it was a spam coronary, that’s what he said. After an overnight at the hospital they prescribed me a bunch of pills for my heart treatment, when i’ve never had problem with my heart. So anyway i did take them like the doctor said, but those pills were giving me gasses, stomach aches, pinches, heartburn i mean you name it, the pills were LIPITOR, PLAVIX, CORAZEM, ASPIRIN and another that i dont remember now…so i when again to the doctor and he ordered me to do and (ecc) and an electrocardiagram, everything came out fine but thru the days i was feeling with anxiety, panics attacks, chills, pinches i mean…..so now i take TAFIL to ease me down, i guess its a drug.i read it on the internet…. anyway, im still having those weirds symptoms from time to time….if anybody can advise me or has an opinion please me be my guest! I really feel scare of dying because of it,or maybe its just a fear, thank you 4 ur help! DAVE
I’ve gone to 3 different Cardiologist and none of them tell me what’s wrong. They said to take it easy and relax. I dont know whatelse to do.

A: Hey bud it’s simple, if you have any doubts about your doctor I would have a second opinion especially if it is your heart that your dealing with that is nothing to let go for to long. Just keep your head up and be strong it will all get worked out just go and get a second opinion. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A: Take a home pregnancy test.

Q: I had an STD and got treatment … but I’m not better!?
Hi.
I ruined my perfect life by having sex with someone I shouldn’t have had sex with. And yes, I did it unprotected, like the biggest idiot alive. I ended up contracting Trichomoniasis, as proved to me by an ER doctor. They also tested me for chlamydia and gonorrhea, which I assume I came up negative for, because they never called me back, and they only call you if you have the infection. I also tested for BV and a yeast infection, which I also think came back negative, or they would have called me. So they gave me some Flagyl pills, and I took one pill per day for four days. On the fourth day, I finally began to feel relief from my horrible symptoms. The painful urination was gone. But the itch continues! It’s been about four days since I completed my medication, and the itch should be gone, but it’s not. Since I don’t have gonorrhea, chlamydia, BV or thrush, what could be making my vagina itch like this? I have no signs of bumps or sores.
The man who gave me the infection is a Black male, age 23, living on the east coast.

My symptoms right now are:
Itching vagina
Sensitive / tender vagina (which is a symptom of Trichomoniasis)

I haven’t been eating lately, due to stress. I have also noticed some changes in my health that I am not sure if they are due to stress or not. These symptoms include: slight sore throat, I woke up with horrible indegestion and heartburn this morning, loss of appetite, depression.

My questions are:
Why is my vagina still itching? Is it possible that I got a yeast infection (thrush) from the Flagyl antibiotics? Flagyl is not notorious for causing yeast infections, like most other antibiotics. Are my other symptoms due to stress, or is it also likely I may have HIV (based on my symptoms). Or am I just worrying myself sick?

I need some advice.
@Brandon – Thank you. It helps to hear this from someone else. Oh, by the way, I started the new sex partner about two months ago. Do you think that’s too soon to be experiencing loss of appetite, indegestion and sore throat due to HIV infection? Thanks for saying it didn’t ruin my life… it feels like it did because of this worry I have. I can’t imagine ever having unprotected sex again, ever in my non-married life. I can’t believe I made such a horrible mistake!!
BTW, I’m one of the many non-insured Americans, so I have to wait until Saturday to be able to go to the Planned Parenthood clinic for a full test. I actually went to the ER to find out about my Trichomoniasis / Trichomonas infection, because the symptoms were so strong and uncomfortable.

A: Go to your doctor. Could be the antibiotics were ineffective or you did develop a secondary yeast infection. And, no… Way too soon for HIV.

Getting a treatable STD did not ruin your life. Just gave you a lesson about what you should do in the future.

Q: Are these “symptoms” related at all?
I don’t have health insurance, and I don’t have the money to go to the doctor unless I have absolutely no choice. I’ve felt a little hypochondriatic lately, so I want to know if I’m obsessing over nothing or if I have any reason to be worried.

I am 19 years old and female. I am not on any medication.

I’ve had what my family has taken to calling “chronic dry lips” for over a year and a half now. I’ve used every single lip balm, lip ointment, and medical lip treatment on the market pretty much. My family even calls me a “lip treatment addict” because I apply so much, but my lips continue to feel dry and they sting from lack of moisture and they’re always dry and peeling.

I have never been lactose intolerant before, but lately, dairy products have given me terrible stomach pains to the point that I have pretty much written them completely out of my diet.

I have also just recently started to get terrible heartburn. But here is the strange part… I’ve been getting heartburn from green vegetables, particularly broccoli and celery. So, I’ve also had to write them out of my diet as well. However, salsa and spicy foods like peppers and curry are still fine.

I have started to pee a lot regularly, too. In an hour, I usually pee from anywhere from twice to up to 10 times.

I have constantly and consistently gotten canker sores in my mouth for the past five years or so. Usually, I will get two to five at once in my mouth, making it nearly impossible to eat. It will usually take about a week or so for them to heal up and go away, and then – about 3 weeks later – I will get more. Almost as if they’re on a schedule.

For the past week and a half, I have been having back pain in my lower back. It appeared suddenly without any provocation. I just went to sit down when I first noticed it, and I had not done any heavy lifting or muscle pulling exercises beforehand. It’s localized to my lower back, and if I do not try to stretch the muscles in my lower back in anyway, I can almost forget about it.

I am taking online classes, and I am unemployed, so my schedule is my own. But lately, I have been sleeping 12 to 14 hours every night. Sometimes the sleep is interrupted, where I will wake up but just not have the energy to get up yet, so that I fall back to sleep, but most nights, it’s an uninterrupted sleep. I always wake up with that really groggy, heavy feeling, and it lets me know that I slept too long immediately.

I live with 4 other people, and while they are often comfortable in our house, I feel freezing almost all the time. I am so cold sometimes, that I shiver to the point where I’m in pain from the muscle spasms. Because of this, my housemates have to heed my request to turn up the temperature. I often do not feel comfortable unless the temperature is above 75*F (23.8*C), and even then, sometimes I still shiver, and we have to put it up to 79*F (26.1*C).

For the past year and a half, I have just now started to get any acne at all, and the amount has been pretty drastic. My face is usually pretty bad, but the main problem is my chest. As a female, this is very embarrassing to have such bad acne on my chest. It covers from my collarbones down to the top of my breasts. It’s pretty localized.

I am very sensitive to the touch. My brother or parents will grab my arm sometimes, just to get my attention, and I will cry out in pain, because it feels as if their fingers are digging into my skin. My brother will flick me with a pencil just to be annoying, and it will hurt so badly that the pain will linger for up to 5 minutes afterward. I even, as I put it, “bruise like a peach” to the point where even my cat, just jumping into my lap, has left bruise marks across my thighs.

I have this one particular “bruise” along my bikini line that has been there for over a year, if not longer (I forget when I first got it). I say “bruise,” because it only hurts sometimes, so it is almost more like a skin discoloration, though it is the color of a fresh, purple bruise. Sometimes, the spot will flare up so that the elastic on my underwear alone will be very painful. During that time, I often have to squeeze at the spot, and often times, pus will come out (though not always).

Also in the past year, I have been getting headaches more frequently. They aren’t migraines, so they’re bearable, but I would rather not have to bear them at all, as I’m sure you can imagine.

I am not pregnant, before anybody suggests it (as I have seen many people just say that to ANY symptoms), as I have not had sex in over a year.

So… is this all just crappy coincidence? Or is there a chain here somewhere that I’m failing to see?

A: Sounds like a lot of little things going on, your back could be your kidneys, to see if you are dehydrated, pinch the skin on the back of your hand, if it stays up you need to get more fluid into you. Please go to a free clinic asap. I am not in the medical field, but this does not sound good.

Q: I think I need to see a gastroenterologist?
I’ve had many digestive problems for the past year and half, almost two years…I went to my doctor (GP) and she said that I need to see a gastroenterologist because of my heartburn that is unresponsive to treatment. I’ve also had a lot more troubling stomach problems, too. My question is, I need to get a referral from my doctor for it, and I don’t know what to put for the reason. Can someone help me think of what to tell my doctor to put on the referral? Here are my symptoms:
nausea/heartburn
severe gas and stomach cramps
frequent stomachaches
alternating constipation/diarrhea

A: Your reason would be “unresolved digestive issues”.
And with those symptoms, while you are waiting to get in to see the gastroenterologist get your GP to order a celiac screening blood test panel. Those are all symptoms of celiac. Good luck and do NOT let anyone tell you “IBS” until they have exhausted all other testing!!!

Q: list of symptoms please read…………..?
ok so i have asked a lot of questions regarding anxiety. But the anxiety treatments don’t seem to be helping. I am not on any prescriptions at all and for the anxiety i have been to a doc who has done breathing and relaxation excercises these seem to work for a while and then it comes back so i am starting to wonder if this is anxeity if anyone has experienced any of this please help. I will feel normal and then all of the sudden i will be hit with a feeling of being shaky, weak, lightheaded and my head will also feel somewhat heavy, and while i feel light headed i also feel like there is a lot of blood in my head, nauseous, lumpy feeling in throat, heart tremors and starting today i had an intense burning feeling in my chest it lasted for about 3 mins like a very strong heartburn and this caused me to become paniky. I also will sometimes have a weird bitterish bloodish taste in my mouth and feel extremly thirsty and nothing i drink will really help. I also feel less energetic and sore in my neck and back a lot more.I will also get either really cold or hot during this and then sometimes feel like i will have loose stools after them but don’t i have had blood done to test for my thyroid and anemia but everything was normal. So like i said i’ve been seeing someone for anxeity but I have lived with this for three months and it just seems to get worse. I can aslo feel kinda cramped in my stomach someimes with it too. I am not on ANY meds. and until three months ago was completely happy normal peppy etc. I am just the opposite now and sometimes i just feel like crying because life has just seemed to loose a lot with this so now i am worried about maybe i am depressed. I dunno what could be causing any of this but if anyone out there has had anything similar or knows anything please help! I am going to see the doc again tomorrow about my panic but i just want to know if any one knows anything before then! thank you soooo much!!!!!!!
I turned 18 in november and actually all this started on my birthday night. no one else n my fam as far as i know has had anything like this my dad and his mom suffered from anxiety though. i also have a stuffy feeling in my ears and sometimes shaking my leg helps

A: How old are you? I would recommend a full physical assessment. If there is no physical reasons for your condition, then a neuro-psych evaluation is indicated. Think about finding an different physician. What is your family history? Your history? All these things determine or lead toward a diagnosis.

Q: help please..?
please help me finish this,
thank you so much

Q: Mysterious Instant Stomach Troubles
Going to be as brief as possible: 21, male, healthy. Large build 230, 6′2. Drank wine a bit consistently for 5-6 months, no problems. Drank other hard liquor in the past, no problems. Tried Gin on June 6th, half a bottle (Seagram’s Extra Dry mixed with lemon juice and ginger ale..I don’t usually mix, was doing so for fun). Immediately noticed I had to keep taking deep breaths/out of breath sensation, stopped. Not sure if the Japanese food (sushi etc.) could’ve had an impact. Drank Jack Daniels and rot gut vodka before, so it was not a matter of tolerance or alcohol exposure.

Next day woke up to a feeling below the throat, felt like a constant need to cough. Went to the doctor…EKG, Chest X-Ray, Barium Swallow, Spirometer/Flow Meter (lung test), Gallbladder Liver scan, all negative. Endoscopy showed a very very small 3-4 cm sliding hiatal hernia, deemed asymptomatic (does not produce symptoms) as it was so small it didn’t even show on the Barium Swallow X-ray. Endoscopy showed no irritation, irregularities or inflammation. Allergy tests showed nothing, Clarinex did nothing.

Symptoms are: Constant cough/irritation between collar bones, murky/powdery stools (as if you were to flush powder from the bottom of the toilet bowl and it billows up), sinus congestion, excessive burping, extreme fatigue, minor heart palpitations, yellow/white coated tongue, hurts to take a deep breath. Spaced out/tired after eating, worse than the “after turkey meal feeling”. Excessive salivation/sweet tasting salivation. Hear an intermittent sound like gas escaping through my esophagus to my neck when I lie down. No heartburn whatsoever. Odd sour taste at back of mouth.

No history of any problems, no history of hypochondria, not psychological (Ativan and other sedatives did nothing). Antibiotics did nothing.

A homeopath suggested Nux Vomica, did nothing but calm me mentally.

Acid reflux/GERD was suggested, took Prilosec, Zantac, Pepcid AC, no effect. Moved to PPI’s (strongest stuff they got), Protonix/Aciphex/Zegerid, did nothing.

It has been 2 months, the symptoms persist despite diet changes. Suggestions regarding a decrease in weight were made. Factors of environment include mold under my water bed that has grown over the years due to frequent popping of the tubes. A plan to replace the bed is underway. It has been suggested that the mold is causing this, or perhaps a Candida Albicans yeast overgrowth, however, the reaction to the Gin was sudden, instant, and very acute. I felt no symptoms whatsoever prior to consumption.

5 doctors, a gastroenterologist, a pulmonary specialist, 10 health coach’s/nurses from the insurance company, a renowned medical researcher, and a famous health expert who exposed a pharmaceutical scam had no clue whatsoever, and were completely baffled.

I have gotten some guidance from a Chinese medicine woman/acupuncturist and am undergoing treatment through TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).

Nevertheless, I am asking for your opinions. Do not tell me I have “GERD” or “acid reflux disease”, those ailments are not diseases, and my symptoms/tests defy such a diagnosis. I am more knowledgeable about Acid Reflux/GERD than most doctors at this point, and I know I don’t have it. I know every test used to detect it, and every “health tip” recommended for it, so don’t waste my time or yours by spamming it.

I am looking for alternative causes.

Thank you

A: I am in no way a medical professional, but I have to respond because I have twice in my life had conditions that could not be diagnosed. Both eventually were, but what a horror show until then.

My first thought on reading as far as your instant reaction to the gin potion was allergy. Short of a pre-existing condition, I can’t think of anything, other than a poison, that could act that fast.

As I read further, I was going to mention mold but then you did. Mold is insidious. Mold can cause hundreds of nasty symptoms. That you had been sleeping on it for god knows how long means that you were breathing it in all that time even though you didn’t know it was there. I don’t know if there is a medical specialty in mycology but it might be a place to start.

Also, consider that what’s going on may have been caused by more than one condition or more than one allergen or mold or … If the gin event was an allergy, maybe it triggered nasty mold spores that had been hidden in your larynx.. I mean, I’m just throwing out ideas here, but it could be two or three different maladies.

In any case, don’t give up. There is a doctor who knows what it is and has at least an idea how to cure it.

Good luck.

Q: Anybody have an easy pregnancy?
I have PCOS and worried about getting pregnant, but once I went on metformin for treatment and we started trying I got pregnant 2 months after we started trying. I had hardly any pregnancy symptoms just a little nausea and heartburn and some back pain and a little insomnia towards the end but all in all I felt amazing during my whole pregnancy. I had no complications, managed to stick to my 30lbs weight gain goal (gained 33 exactly!), and delivered a 7lbs 7oz baby girl at 40 weeks 3 days. My labor was on the longish side (20 hours total) but I did make it without an epidural, and the only issue was I vomited quite a bit during delivery. Otherwise, minimal tearing, and was permitted to go home within 24 hours. It was a wonderful experience (I just hope my 2nd turns out that fab). I was just wondering did anybody else have it that easy? Like I hear a lot of people talk about how miserable it was…but did anybody have an experience like mine? I mean I felt better while I was pregnant…except the very last month cuz it was July and I felt like a whale and had to take an ice cold bath daily! lol. So what about your experiences?

A: I had a very easy pregnancy as well. No nausea, heart burn, stretch marks or anything. I went from 127lbs to 163lbs (I’m 5′ 9″) at time of labor and delivery and dropped back down to 130lbs right after delivery. I was in labor for 10 hrs and pushed her out very quickly. Couldn’t get the epidural because I have a slight weird curve in my lower spine and it couldn’t be put in correctly. I tore a bit but that’s it. Aside from slightly less perky boobs, I look exactly as I did before I became pregnant:)
