Q: Heartburn / indigestion symptoms?
Heartburn / indigestion symptoms?
Please tell me what this feels like and the longest it has lasted with you. I have had sore chest pain on and off for about 4 hours now just wondering if anyone else gets this when the have heartburn or indigestion. I have no burning sensation so im just not sure . thanks

A: Heartburn does cause burning down the esophagus and in the chest. Indigestion includes a lot of burping, gas, and bloating.
Something you ate didn’t agree with you. If you’re lucky, when you burp you’ll taste the culprit. Like broccoli or radishes. (Gross, sorry!)
Try taking Pepto-Bismal, Tums, or Gas-X. Try to figure out the culprit food. It’s usually something spicy, or one those veggies.
If it continues, see your doctor! Hopefully this is just a one-time thing.

Best of luck to you! =)

Q: Early Pregnancy Symptom..indigestion/heartburn?
DH and I are TTC. LMP was June 5th…ovulated around mid june. Having heartburn/indigestion. Is this an early preg symptom? Just wanted to ask before I call my dr questioning. I just want to make sure all is ok

My mid-lower back is sore as well.
For those of you who are saying NO to this, why is that I read elsewhere that this was an early sign AND that others have answered this on here saying that they had this right from the start? Very conflicting answers.

A: Yes but could also be stress of thinking about it! Wait until 3 days before period is due and take clearblue digital test. If you can’t wait call doctor and get blood test for HCG levels which is more sensitive than a home test. Try and relax, I know its tough! Good luck and lots of love x

Q: What is the difference between indigestion and heartburn?
and what are the symptoms of both? Bit of a silly question really, but I have never suffered from either. I am nearly 5 weeks pregnant, and keep having a kind of burning sensation in my chest and lower neck, particular after eating, it only last a couple of minutes or so then goes away. I know indigestion/heartburn can be a problem in late pregnany, but surely not this early?! I’ve also been [excuse me] burping and trumping a lot – anyone else had this?

A: Indigestion is a feeling of pain and discomfort in the stomach, heartburn is the symptom of indigestion – The burning in the chest, behind the breastbone.. The burping and expulsion of gas (trumping!) is quite normal! You think it’s bad now, wait til you hit 34 weeks! Eat little and often, and make gaviscon your best friend! Congrats.

Q: Heartburn, indigestion and other various aches?
In early pregnancy one of the symptoms is heartburn caused through indigestion. I quite often suffer from indigestion anyway because i bolt my food. I seem now though to get heartburn with it – would this be a pregnancy symptom? Also i a few weeks ago i was suffering with cramps and twinges – these have calmed down now but when i eat food i get the odd twinge in my stomach and back – anyone else had this?

A: I had this for my first pregnancy…my doctor said tums everyday it was good for me and the baby…calcium. I have already had gas pains during my pregnancy so severe I had to leave church, I went home and soaked in hot bath water and then lay on the couch with my legs hanging over the back of the couch and this helped me out a lot.

Q: Indigestion? Heartburn? Is that what I have or something else?
I don’t know if this is indigestion or heartburn or something else because I’ve never had it before and am unfamiliar with the symptoms.

Basically for the last three days, I feel like I am stuffed/full. I have not been hungry and occassionally I burp and feel like food is going to come up but doesn’t. I feel like I have food in my chest and lower esophogus. I have been eating some food because I have low blood sugar, but it’s all healthy. However, whenever I eat anything or even drink water, I feel like I’m going to throw up (which I haven’t done in 20 years). Also, it’s not like I’m laying down after I eat or anything…this has been happening all day long for three days now.

Anyone know what this is? Anyone know how I can make myself feel better?

A: I agree this sounds serious. Your general practicioner will know where to send you. Perhaps you will need some tests done. It’s impossible to diagnose something like this without tests being performed. The sooner you see about it, something can be done. Hope you feel better soon.

A: tums

Q: Can you get pain in the jaw from indigestion or heartburn?
pain that goes away with the other symptoms
I mean more like a “burning” sensation in the jaw

A: I don’t think so. Sometimes allergies cause jaw pain, or an abscess in a tooth, or possibly heart disease. You might want to check with a dentist or doctor.

Q: Can it be an ulcer or GERD? I get really BAD heartburn and indigestion and it will last for days at a time?
Then I will not have any symptoms for weeks or months, and then it starts again. Also with the really bad hearturn my saliva really starts to fill my mouth to where I almost drool Yuk I know. I also get really tired. What could it be?

A: it is definitely gerd, might also be an ulcer, and both are obviously triggered by diet or stress levels or both combining. See a doctor and get treatment, either one can have serious consequences down the road.

Q: how often do you get indigestion when pregnant?
I think I’m pregnant but its too early to tell but I have all of the early symptoms anyways how often do you get indigestion or heartburn?

A: Everyone is different. I didn’t start getting indigestion at all until late late in my pregnancy.

Q: Heartburn-like symptoms?
I’m 46, in good shape, not overweight, with no historry of digestive or heart disease or cancer in my family.

For several months, and increasingly in the last 2 months, I’ve had what feels a lot like heartburn/acid-reflux. About 5 weeks ago, I had a pain in my chest so bad around the esophagal/heart area it felt like I was having a heart attack!

I don’t think it’s heart-related, but I’m just saying, the pain was that severe.

I saw a family physician twice the last week of August, and he put me on nexium, for 30 days, which I just ceased taking at his recommendation, 3 days ago).
Nexium LIMITED the pain, but did not eliminate it. I still had a dull ache around the esophagal area, although lessened by Nexium. My Dr said if it was acid reflux, that would definitely have eliminated it, so that eliminates that. He also tested me for the bacteria that causes ulcers, and I tested negative for that.

I didn’t like taking nexium, it made me feel like I was on the edge of being incontinent, and I had loose bowel movements and headaches the whole month I was on it.
My doctor initially had me on Nexium for 2 months, but said if it wasn’t helping after 30 days, I might as well discontinue it.

My Dr also gave me an EKG to test for potential heart problems, and that showed no signs of heart trouble.

He also did bloodwork, and the only bad sign was my cholesterol was 238, which he advised me to get down, and I’ve almost completely given up meat and dairy to make an immediate improvement in that.

I’m 5′ 11″, 180 lbs, in good shape, with no physical problems otherwise.
I usually feel indigestion and chest pain/acid-reflux-like symptoms 2 to 3 hours after I eat, and often releive the pain/pressure by pressing on points of my upper pectoralis muscles, and burping (as quietly as I can). I think it could possibly just be gas pain, but it seems my esophagus or something else is inflamed.
I burp, quietly, sometimes 100, 200 or more times. And I don’t want to, but it seems to be the only thing that releives the pressure and pain, at least partially. Sometimes I press on my pectoralis points till my chest is black and blue (although not often) to releive the pressure.
I work as a massage therapist, and so have a very physical job. I’m in discomfort, but –so far— it does not impair my ability to work. Although sometimes I’m at the upper threshold of pain I can comfortably work with.
It often helps me to work rather than sit at my desk, because then I’m flexing my chest muscles, and that relieves and stretches it.

I also feel frequent itching/irritation around my tonsils and the back of my throat, possibly related to irritation of my esophagus.
I’ve never felt nausea, vomiting or vomiting blood, which I’ve seen are symptoms of esophagal cancer. My doctor says based on what he’s seen so far, he doesn’t think it’s heart disease or any kind of cancer. But this ongoing inflammation can’t be good.

The only other health problem I have is mild allergies, although I’m extremely allergic to mold, and that can irritate my throat and make it burn, especially when air conditioning first comes on and kicks up dust in the vents. And when I’m outside near a canal or other place where mold grows abundantly. But that is largely controllable.

I’m concerned because the chest pain has kicked up considerably in the last 6 weeks.

I’m also currently uninsured, although I make about 30,000 annually and can for the first time in my life afford insurance. I’m concerned if I see a gastro-enterologist, he’ll just say “Sorry, nothing I can do, 300 dollars please”.
Or if it is a serious medical condition, they’ll deny me coverage and say it’s a pre-existing condition.
I also have no idea how to find a good insurance provider.

Please advise me, what you think it is, and how it can be treated and eliminated. Thank you !
The most persistent symptom is chest pain, centered around the third rib, just to the left of my sternum, and tightness in my chest muscles on the same point and 2-inch radius around it.

For maybe a year, I only felt it after I ate, about 2 to 3 hours after eating. But the last 5 weeks, I feel it pretty much from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep, more inflamed when I eat.
I notice no symptoms of fatigue or sweating to indicate heart problems. And again, I had an EKG 1 month ago that indicated no heart problems.

A: Possibly a hiatal hernia. Please check your local area for free clinics, or go to your church and ask for help. Often they can assist.

Q: Is this heartburn or indigestion?
I know that sounds dumb, but I’ve never actually had either. I have had a slight warm or acidic feeling in my lower esophogus since yesterday morning. I didn’t eat anything abnormal, but I did have too much to eat the night before it came on. I had plenty of water and a cup of tea before bed. I felt thirsty but very full. When I woke up, instead of feeling better like I do on the occasions that his happens, I felt like I had to burp but couldn’t, and when I lay down and/or roll over, I can usually feel the “heat” rolling with me. The burp feeling hasn’t really gone away either. It’s not constant, and the intensity varies.
I am 35 weeks pregnant, and I know heartburn is a common 3rd trimester symptom. I’m just wondering if this is it or something more like indigestion. I had some icecream last night and it helped a little. Milk with breakfast has minimal effect. I’m trying to stay upright, but when I feel things moving I might burp, more often than not nothing happens.
It was a few hours (at least 3) after I ate that I went to bed, and I’ve been drinking seltzer water but it’s not really helping. I know Tums is safe but I haven’t been to the store yet.

A: I think if you tried some TUMS it would be OK. As for indigestion and heartburn, they are just about the same thing. Too much acid builds up in your stomach…frequent complaint from “mommies to be”.
The gas that has built up there was because you went to bed too soon after consuming food…not a good thing to do to avoid gas build up. Call your OB or pharmacist and ask them if it would be OK with them if you took some Alkaseltzer…to bring up the gas. Undigested food that sits in your stomach late at night, just automatically builds up gas. Good luck

Q: Did anyone have heartburn or indigestion…?
In the first month of pregnancy? I had a conversation with my Child Development teacher today about it, and she agreed that I do have many of the symptoms of pregnancy, but she was unsure how often heartburn or indigestion comes along…
Forgot to mention that I NEVER have heartburn. Maybe once or twice a year or so ago, but not so severe. This has been going to for around the past 3 to 4 days. SAVE ME! :-p

A: Yes, it is very common throughout one’s entire pregnancy to have heartburn and indigestion.

Are you definitely pregnant? If you are unsure I would take a test or even go to a doctor to be sure. Don’t rely/speculate on signs or symptoms to decide whether you are in fact pregnant. They vary widely for everyone.

Q: What can happen if you take 2-3 antacid pills daily?
(without having any heartburn or indigestion symptoms)

A: A little added Calcium to ones diet….Hey ICU-RN 2-3 standard Calcium Carbonate Antacids will NOT result in the catastrophic maladies you allude to…For Pete’s Sake.

Q: Nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea?
Are these the symptoms McCain-Palin voters have today?

A: u betcha!

Q: Is this heartburn? Acid indigestion?
This seems to happen a lot. It seems to happen suddenly as well. A slight burning sensation in the back of my throat. There’s def. no pain around the breastbone like I’ve read about as a symptom of heartburn. No pain anywhere else. I never get an actual taste in my mouth like stomach acid either. Occasionally after I notice this slight pain my voice is hoarse. But not always. I rarely feel nausea with this but it HAS happened in the past. One other symptom I noticed and I have no clue if it’s related but I figured I’d tack it on just in case. When ever I eat a meal I notice that when I am finished I have an extremely phlegmy cough. So severe in fact I cannot take a deep breath without going into a coughing fit to clear the mucus. I had read somewhere or heard from someone that phlegmy coughing after meals can be related to heartburn?? Can anyone set me straight here? Tums normally help but again I’ve run into times where they don’t do much. I’d say I get this 3 to 5 times a month. I avoid spices and seasonings like the plague because I don’t like burping up the taste of it hours and hours later but even eating simpler foods I still get this burning once and while. Thanks for any help.
I never wake up with this pain, and I’ve never been “struck” with an episode while laying down. There seems to be no pattern at all. This even happens to me if I haven’t eaten all day long…

A: Sounds like gastric reflux – stomach acid getting into the throat. This can have several causes but the symptoms can be treated with gaviscon tablets or liquid.

See tour doctor for further investigation and treatment.
